I was supposed to come back to
after all the ashes were scattered and put to rest
and all the tears were washed into the lake

and be at peace and so happy
like we never had been before
how we'd get so calm
and all wound up
like planets spinning forever orbits

and breathe each other's breath
and feel that great respite
from inside our mouths
without the forces of gravity
weighing us down
that great respite
from all those words and voices
and supposed to bes
and gotta dos
why don't we lay down again
so I can feel like I've never felt before
again and again and again with you
and make the skies cry like that again
while we wrangle each other body and soul
making the thunder clap
the lightning rage
and the weather change
for us both--
but mostly you
why'd we have to die like that
